New ActionJet Roll Call: P-51 Mustang

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Hey there kids!

We are back to reveal the next jet in our Roll Call: the P-51 Mustang!

The P-51 Mustang is a long-range single-seat fighter aircraft which rose to prominence during World War II. It was first used by the Royal Air Force as a fighter-bomber and recon aircraft before eventually shifting into becoming a bomber escort. It was largely used in the Allied forces raids in Europe during the latter part of WWII. It was still used by many United Nations countries’ air forces until the early 1980s, including participating in the Korean War. It was very cheap to produce back then, but it provided the speed and durability that many other aircraft lacked during that time. The Ford Mustang model automobile got it’s name from this very reliable aircraft.

New ActionJet Roll Call: F-22 Raptor

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Hey there kids!

We are back to reveal the next jet in our Roll Call: the F-22 Raptor!

The F-22 Raptor is a single-seat, twin-engine fifth-generation fighter aircraft that mainly uses stealth technology. Designed primarily as an “air superiority” fighter, it has been given additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare and signal intelligence roles. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, the prime contractor, is responsible for building the airframe, weapon systems and it’s final assembly while partner Boeing Defense, Space & Security provided the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and all of the pilot and maintenance training systems. The Raptor, which was previously designated as either F-22 or F/A-22 prior to entering the US Air Force in 2005, is widely recognized by critics as “the most outstanding fighter plane fighter plane ever built” due to it’s combination of speed, agility, stealth, precision and situational awareness, and versatility.

Hey there kids!

We are back to reveal the next jet in our Roll Call: the AV-8B Harrier II!

The AV-8B Harrier II is a second-generation vertical/short takeoff and landing (or V/STOL) ground attack aircraft designed by McDonnell Douglas (more popular known nowadays as Boeing). It is primarily used for light attacks and/or multi-role tasks, typically operated from small aircraft carriers and large amphibious assault ships. It can fly to speeds just below the speed of sound (or subsonic) and is equipped with six wing and three fuselage hardpoints for carrying weapons and external fuel tanks. The AV-8B is used by the United States Marine Corps, while the British Royal Air Force and Royal Navy is using the GR7/GR9 variants. Other countries such as Spain and Italy also use variants of the Harrier as well. The first few variants are known as the “Day Attack” variants, but they have since been upgraded to the “Night Attack” variants.
